Two opposing viewpoints on what constitutes spoilers for sex scenes. The trait FAQ is very vague on this, so what do moderators think regarding the "official" stance? It might be worthwhile expanding the traits FAQ to provide clarity.Last modified on 2018-08-15 at 05:07

Spoilery traits should always be marked as such.Yeah, that doesn't say much.
Anyone who are intrigued with high amounts of character development (Darling Franxx), lore (Fantastic Beasts, Star Wars, etc.) and story-telling (Clannad, *cough cough* Summer Pockets) would know by now how a spoiler works. It could use more clarification for the less intrigued.Last modified on 2018-08-15 at 06:16

In general, sexual tags and traits are rarely a spoiler. You can usually guess that, if you're playing a porn game, you're going to have sex with some characters (and there's typically a lot of hints already about which characters are involved).
That, and sexual traits can already be hidden if you really don't want to know this stuff.

I see it too. It's become a mere muscle memory just seeing how sex is depicted nowadays in conventional commercial visual novels. Both vanilla and hardcore.

Would it hurt the moderators to add the official stance to the faq? It may be common knowledge to moderators and frequent contributors, but not to new users.

Now we have the wonderful "Show sexual traits" imo it's much less of an issue - you get the choice. That said I'd much rather people mark things as spoilers if there's any doubt. If a user who has played a game thinks they are spoilers, they probably should be. That includes tags like pregnancy which aren't (directly) sexual and display by default.

But as much as how sex is depicted in visual novels, it's just mere distractions to the entire story line. It's only a common excuse for dramatical build-up and character development, and I rarely see why they should be considered "spoiler" because it's a normal visual novel distraction to see people bang. People should know that repetition by the time you're frequent into visual novels.Last modified on 2018-08-16 at 03:20

My objection is that I think you're painting with an overly broad brush. Sure, a Nukige with the three heroines naked on the cover is about as far away from being spoilers as you can get. Can you say the same for all characters and traits though? Seeing Non-consensual Porn Filming on a character in a game from, say, Hulotte *is* a spoiler and probably quite unexpected. If banging a sister side character isn't obvious, knowing she has Incest tagged is going to be a spoiler and likely isn't going to help with any effort the game put towards character development (doubly so if it's not with the protagonist). Deferring spoiler judgement to users who've played a VN doesn't seem unreasonable.Last modified on 2018-08-16 at 18:22

Rape traits can be spoilers, as can various other ones depending on the game. Hell, Dasaku has a ton of sexual traits as spoilers, and considering how the game works, I think it's completely valid.
That said, in this case, the user is tagging every side character in Ikusa Megami Zero and Ikusa Megami Verita with spoiler traits. If you know anything about Eushully, you know that you're going to be sleeping with everyone by the end of the game, and I don't think that the simple fact that you can have sex with them is a spoiler - certainly not a "major" one.Last modified on 2018-08-16 at 18:50

If I was able to get the games (somehow), I would be able to record a bunch of traits and judge the degree of spoilers myself. First hand experience is superior than thesis, but I wish people who experienced would understand the 'norm' of visual novels; the degree of sexual representation of visual novels. But after all, I'm just driving it through common sense. That's all there is to me.
...In fact, sexual positions are the *least* spoiled traits to be marked. But, maybe I should just let time know what happens next.Last modified on 2018-08-17 at 04:51

Since today, I have been unable to edit the format selection of releases. Does anyone know what is wrong? I can click on any other button, but when I click resolution or animation, the tab does not open.
Edit: NVM, you can't edit format when patch is selected. Weird. Why won't format show up on a patch? What if it is a patch to add animation to a vn?Last modified on 2018-08-18 at 16:20

If it's purpose is to patch a release (whether adding features or fixing bugs/glitches), it should be labeled as patch.
I guess the reason it doesn't need additional format is that it's just an extension, hence "patch."

Question about visual novel screenshots from consoles...
I have been tipped off by lunaterra that *some* consoles have built-in screenshot captures. However, some games when capturing screenshots will place a mandatory "watermark licensing" on the picture upon the snap of a button. And that's a problem because that...may conflict with the "no watermark policy." But they aren't PC and you can't use techniques to cut out screenshots at required native resolution, let alone that the ability to take a game picture is already on your console's inputs.
The ability to capture screenshots on a budget is already in our hands and yet it requires a watermark on each capture. Still, what do you think about capturing screenshots with games that enforce watermarks? People are itching to post screenshots from console visual novels but with modern consoles nowadays having the feature to take screenshots while you play, would this method still be acceptable when posting console screenshots here?

I was just about to post about that, haha.
I'm personally of the opinion that watermarks should be allowed for console games (mainly Vita, possibly PS4 but there aren't too many of those). You COULD, in theory, get watermark-less screenshots by hacking the console or by using a capture card, but I think it's unreasonable to expect editors to go through all that effort and/or spend money just to get a handful of screenshots. There aren't any Vita emulators that can play commercial games yet, so that's not an option.
I think of it as being similar to 4K VNs (of which a handful exist) where the screenshots are allowed to be 1920x1080 just because so few people have 4K monitors.

^It's not a typo but obviously french, pardon him~
4K VNs (of which a handful exist)seriously thou' and apart from that those must be listed under Non-Standard then, it's hard for me to believe that 4K Game CG (not upscaled ofc) exist... but welp, anyway, it'd be neat to note precisely what
"exception to this rule is [...] when the native resolution is higher than what most displays support."
means before some lunatic decides that most "should" have more than just Full HD (going on a remove crusade). I.e 1980x1080 for 16:10 and 1280x960 for 4:3 would be right, anything bigger can be downscaled to those very formats but be replaced with higher res if available.

Screenshots shouldn't have the mouse cursor in them.

Is there a quota of what original language in the image (key visuals) should be used? I've seen some Peach Princess/G-Collections/JAST USA published visual novel entries here have English covers and untouched for months or years. But the majority of Japanese VN all have original Japanese, unedited visuals and it feels to me as if they're becoming inconsistent with the Japanese-made VN entries. Because they were originally made in Japan.
That...and maybe it's grown on me just to see Japanese-made VN entries here with unedited, original Japanese-lanauge key visuals. It's aesthetic that way to see the "original" and unchanged cover apart from official overseas publishing.Last modified on 2018-09-04 at 20:05

I noticed that both Sayonara o Oshiete ~Comment te Dire Adieu~ and Jisatsu no Tame no 101 no Houhou have gore scenes marked as NSFW, despite neither CG having any nudity. It’s particularly strange in the case of Jisatsu no Tame no 101 no Houhou, since that CG is also used as the image for one of the characters. Was there ever some sort of ruling on this matter?

I want to ask if it's necessary to create new release if a language was added to the game (so the game has multiple language to choose from, not separated)?
